Three Hurriyat leaders released in Delhi
NEW DELHI, APRIL 3. Three senior Hurriyat leaders, including its
Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, were released tonight here as
part of efforts for restoration of peace in Jammu and Kashmir,
official sources said here.
Besides Mr. Geelani, two other members, Mr. Abdul Gani Bhat and
Maulana Abbas Ansari were released at Delhi's Palam airport after
over six months' detention under the Public Safety Act, the
sources said. Earlier, the three were flown to Jammu from Jodhpur
and were later shifted to Delhi following mounting tension in
Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
The sources said the release would hopefully lend a helping hand
in the efforts for restoration of peace in the State. Apart from
Mr. Geelani, Mr. Bhat and Mr. Ansari, other prominent Hurriyat
leaders, including chief of the banned Jammu and Kashmir
Liberation Front (JKLF), Mr. Yaseen Malik, Mr. Javed Ahmed Mir
and Mr. Mohammed Ashraf Sehrai are lodged in Jodhpur jail. The
sources said the other leaders would also be released in a
``phased'' manner.
