President to visit France in mid-April

PARIS, APRIL 2. The President, Mr. K. R. Narayanan, will embark on a five-day State visit to France in mid-April to further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, officials said today.

Mr. Narayanan, leading a high-level delegation, would arrive in France on April 16. During the first part of his stay, the President would meet senior French leaders, top Government officials and academics in the capital followed by a visit to aeronautical industries in the south of France.

The first ever Presidential visit to France caps all the positive movement taking place between India and France for the last two years, said Mr. Kanwal Sibal, India's Ambassador to France.

The visit would begin on April 17 with a ceremonial welcome at the Elysee Palace, where the French President, Mr. Jacques Chirac, would receive Mr. Narayanan. Mr. Chirac would host a banquet in his honour.
