'On the spot Chinese visa for businessmen'
MUMBAI, APRIL 2. An Indian involved in economic and trade
activities with China, can get a visa on the spot, Mr. Huang
Quanheng, Consul General of the People's Republic of China, has
said.
Inaugurating a symposium on `50 years of diplomatic relation
between India and China' here yesterday, organised by `India-
China Friendship Association (ICFA)', Mr. Quanheng said he was
willing to build widespread and profound relations with India to
promote rapid development of mutual economic and trade relations.
``Sustained economic development in our two countries has created
favourable conditions for expanding bilateral trade and economic
relations and cooperation and the bilateral trade volume has
reached 1987 million U.S. dollars in 1999'', he said.
``In fact, in South Asia, India has become China's biggest
trading partner'', he added.
Talking about WTO, he alleged that the existing trade system had
obvious defects and it had failed to fully reflect the rights,
interests and demands of the developing countries.
Mr. Quanheng said China could help in infrastructure and
construction areas as their expertise in these areas were
comparable to Western experts.
``We should work hard to overcome all difficulties, including
lack of understanding of each other, and it could be brought to
higher level of mutual trust,'' he added.
