Desecration causes tension

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, APRIL 1. The situation was tense at Kavalbyrasandra in Devarajeevanahalli police station limits in the City on Saturday morning following the desecration of a place of worship.

The Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Mr. B. N. Nagaraj, told presspersons that some miscreants had thrown a burning piece of cloth inside the place of worship. A ``holy cloth'' inside the place of worship caught fire. Soon a group of people gathered in front of the place of worship and started shouting slogans demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.

As tension rose in this communally sensitive area, police rushed in additional forces and tightened security. Mr. Nagaraj and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Mr. K. L. Sudheer, visited the spot and pacified the crowd.

People dispersed after Mr. Sudheer assured them that the culprits would be brought to book and patrolling would be intensified to prevent such incidents in future.

Mr. Nagaraj said that the Devarajeevanahalli police had registered a case and were investigating. He said that no untoward incidents occurred as a fallout of the desecration.

This is the third place of worship to be desecrated in Devarajeevanahalli and the adjoining Kadugondanahalli in the past two months.
