In a major initiative to promote exports, the Government today announced the creation of two special economic zones (SEZs) on the Chinese model in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Simultaneously, it lifted quantitative restrictions (QRs) on 714 items, thus allowing free import of a wide range of goods including milk, coffee, potato chips, fish, paper and electronic goods.
